2011 Works Centre Events


Thursday 10th March - AWC Annual General Meeting, at The Dog House Hotel, Frilford Heath, OX13 6QJ. Contact Richard Martin on 01235 529331 or Sarah Davies on 01993 212420.

Saturday 26th March - Annual Centre Dinner.
The Centre's annual dinner and awards is being held at the Steventon House Hotel, Abingdon, 19:30 for 20:00.The guest speaker will be well known motoring journalist Graham Robson. Contact Brian Moylan on 01235 531384.

Sunday 17th April - St. George’s Day Run. Starting from a location in Abingdon, and finishing at Ablington (yes, really!), the St. George's Run coincides with the FBHVC's "Drive it Day". Open to all classic cars, entry fee £4 per person, but entries are limited so please book in advance. Our contact for the event is Pete Davies on 07877 932284.

Sunday 8th May - Abingdon Works Car Show. Part of the Abingdon Air & Country Show (do not try to book the road runs from that link), Dalton Barracks. Optional road runs from various points within the Centre. Contact Mike Lamb on 0118 941 2102.

Sunday 29th May - Old Speckled Hen Run. Starting from a location in the Abingdon area, and returning for tea and scones after an unmissable run. Contact Richard Martin on 01235 529331. Event co-sponsored by Greene King (visit the Old Speckled Hen website) and Artisan Internet Limited.

Friday 24th to Sunday 26th June - Abingdon Works Centre at MGLive! at Silverstone. Come and see the Abingdon Works Centre in the main MG Car Club pavilion and put some faces to the names! Check the MGLive! website for the latest information.

Sunday 24th July - Summer Day Out. The AWC's traditional day in the sun, with road runs starting in Abingdon and Arborfield and finishing at Grey's Court, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, RG9 4PG. Sunday 11th September - MG Museum Renovation Fund Run.CANCELLED. Supported by the MGCC & MGOC, four road runs converging on Abingdon, complete with a lecture and film show at the Amey Hall Theatre at Abingdon School. In aid of the Abingdon MG Museum appeal. CANCELLED.

Sunday 25th September - Chairman’s Run. A road run of the AWC Chairman’s choice, starting from Abingdon, and finishing at the River & Rowing Museum at Henley on Thames. Contact Richard Martin on 01235 529331.

Monday 26th December - the 18th Boxing Day Run. Blow away the cobwebs with the annual Boxing Day Run starting from Abingdon Market Square, arrive 9.30-10.00am. £5 per car, no need to pre-book for the run, 50 car limit. The finish will be at The Dog House Hotel (a favourite haunt of MG company directors) at Frilford, where cooked meals will be available, but book first on 01865 390830. Sunday 21st August - White Hart Natter run to Cranleigh Car Show. Organised jointly by the MGCC White Hart Natter and southern MGOC Natters. Road runs start at Arborfield and a location near Southampton, meeting up at the cafe near The West Meon Hut before continuing to the Cranleigh Car Show. All proceeds will go to the John Radcliffe Hospital and there will be a road book and rally plaque for all starters. Contact Peter Bush on 07949 995552.

Tuesday 27th September - Hursley Natter MG & General Knowledge Quiz Night. Fifty questions on all manner of general knowledge subjects with a few MG and motoring questions thrown in for good measure. Starts at 7.30pm - contact David Askew on 01962 890108.

Sunday 13th - road run from Abingdon to Blenheim Palace in aid of Help For Heroes.

Sunday 7th August - South East Centre's Summer Celebration will be held at Loseley Park, just south of Guildford, Surrey. The venue has a beautifully preserved Historic House with Gardens. There will also be a Craft Fair on the day to which entry will be free. There will be a Concours/PoO, plus a Gymkhana and grass Autotests will also take place during the day. Sunday 21st August - Fly to The Past. The "History of Flight" show at London Oxford Airport with classic cars, a 4 hour air show, wing walking, pleasure flights, vintage aircraft display, Swing classes marching bands and more. Entry is free for a driver and 1 passenger in a classic car, so we're making a block booking for any AWC members who want to go, but please note that the cut-off date for pre-booking is Friday 5th August. Sun 28th & Mon 29th August - Blenheim Palace Car Show. Annual classic car meeting organised by Andrew Greenwood exhibitions group. Book ahead or pay on the day. More info at www.classicshows.org

Monday 29th August - Beech Hill Garage Charity Day.  The annual charity day which includes a road run, a BBQ and a motoring oriented raffle. This year's supported charity is the Macmillan Cancer Support Group. Starts around 10:30. For more information call 0118 9884774 or visit their website.

Sat 10th & Sun 11th September - Beaulieu International Autojumble.

Sat 17th & Sun 18th September - Goodwood Revival.

Sunday 18th September - Turweston Wings & Wheels.  An interesting combination of historic vehicles of all types and a spectacular flying display of WWII aircraft. Turweston airfield is situated alongside the A43 just south of Silverstone. The AWC is planning a visit to this event so if you fancy coming along withyour picnic get in contact with Richard Martin on 01235 529331.

Sat 24th & Sun 25th September - Kop Hill Climb 2011. This is the third revival of the historic pre-war hill climb course. It is gaining in popularity every year and a chance to see some historic and modern 'supercars' and motorcycles. Located in the Chilterns near Princes Risborough.
